Challenge No. 6 will require you to answer the following questions from the text:
Chapter 10: 1, 4, 9
Chapter 11: 1, 6, 11, 12
Challenge assignments are meant to be a “challenge” and not just a direct question/answer reply to the question as assigned. For full credit, it is recommended that you answer the question, reflect on the subject AND add your own personal thoughts, personal experiences related to the questions, examples, and opinions TO EACH question as assigned. The best approach is to answer the questions then weave in a paragraph or two about your own experiences, examples, and opinions on each question.
The idea of this assignment is to challenge you to think about the HR questions and scenarios critically and how you would deal with them in your own words.
Responses should be long enough to fully answer all portions of the questions. Some questions require longer responses than others; therefore, there is no set paragraph or word count. However, responses should be thorough and fully answer the questions. Below are some tips on how to approach the challenge questions. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Some tips for the challenge assignments to help you craft a successful narrative:
1. HR management is not just about managing employees; it’s also about managing yourself as an employee. Using this frame of thought, do NOT be limited in your responses (hence, the “challenge”). Add your own personal experiences, insights and thoughts within the question. A good way to do this is to either put yourself in an HR manager’s shoes or as an employee yourself.
2. INCORPORATE the key points from the readings into your response. Don’t just copy the text verbatim from the book or other sources. The text and sources are there to assist you as you think of the questions.
3. Apply the concepts within your own experiences and scenarios. For example, you may have seen discrimination or prejudice within your experiences in different scenarios. These add depth to your responses and help you gain an understanding of the differences between the terms when applied to the real world.
4. Make sure to highlight key question points fully. For example, if the question asks about differences between terms, ensure that you highlight the difference within your response.
5. Avoid one line responses.
6. Answer all of the questions.
