Module 3 Discussion: Essay Building
Essay Frames
It’s our third Discussion Board (DB) assignment for the semester!
In this Module, we reviewed the parts of an essay so that we can ensure that our essays have said parts when we write them. When people think of essays, they typically focus on the paragraph level since that is the “bigger” part, and it is in terms of size. However, in terms of importance, there are two types of sentences that are far more crucial in the construction of the essay: the thesis statement and the topic sentences. Without these “frames,” the paragraphs are meaningless. For this DB assignment, we are going to practice these sentence types so that we start to build “muscle memory”; in other words, we are going to practice writing these types of sentences so often this semester that writing them will be almost automatic every time you start a new essay.
